This section of the Big Muddy River is the most popular with paddlers as it travels through Shawnee National Forest and open rural farmlands providing a peaceful, relaxing experience on the water. There are good access points along the part of the river and there is also lots of opportunity for viewing wildlife. The river has very little gradient making it very slow and easily traveled by paddlers of all skill levels. This section of the river is a little wider than other parts of the Big Muddy so log jams are not all that common and should not be an issue but the banks are known for being very muddy with lots of downed trees and logs.
