One of the most popular rivers for floating in all of Michigan is the Au Sable River located in the northern Lower Peninsula. The river is popular for paddling due to its beautiful scenery, consistent water levels, and easy access. The river between Mio Dam and McKinley Bridge is very wide, 100 feet in spots, and is popular for trout fishing and drift boats, so pay attention to anglers along the way. The river runs through mostly undeveloped forested terrain along this section and there are lots of established shoreline campsites available for overnight trips.
