The Au Sable River is one of the most popular in all of Michigan for paddling due to its beautiful scenery, consistent water levels, and easy access. The run from Parmalee Bridge to Mio Dam travels through mostly wooded terrain with minor development providing lots of wildlife viewing opportunity. The current after Parmalee Bridge is faster and more steady with some riffles but the river slows significantly as it nears Mio Pond. There are multiple take-out and resting spots located on Mio Dam Pond. Paddlers continuing past Mio Dam Pond will have a short portage on the right of the dam.
