The South Branch of the Au Sable River is ideal for beginner canoeists or those just looking for a relaxing and scenic float down a lazy river. Meandering through the Mason Tract Wilderness Area, the river provides lots of natural scenery and wildlife viewing opportunity. Fallen trees, log jams, and other natural obstructions are common on the river and may require some extra caution. There are additional access points between the put-in and take-out that can be used to customize a shorter trip if desired.
