The area that the Root River Challenge runs through has been given the epitaph of Minnesota's "driftless" area. The region was sculpted in large part by a 12,000 year old glacier, that carved out the land of this beautiful area during the last ice age. The route features Harmony, which has a fairly large Amish population. Also featured are beautiful limestone and sandstone ridges along Root River Valley. Be apprised that while all the roads are low traffic Highway 16 may have fast traffic.
