One of only 6 places in the world like it, City of Rocks State Park takes its name from the bizarre rock formations created by volcanic ash and erosion. This loop will take you first through the surrounding grasslands, where you can get a far away view of the "city" to the east. Wildlife abounds as do desert plants to keep your interest, until you begin weaving your way through the rock formations. Take your time and enjoy the views, there are plenty of trails in addition to the ones listed here. Stop by the desert botanical gardens before you leave or spend the night at any one of the 62 campsites scattered among the rocks. $5 day use fee per vehicle.
