Separated from Tillamook Bay the the Bayocean Dike, the freshwater Cape Meares Lake sits right next to the Pacific Ocean. At the south end of lake are extensive vernal pools and marshes which provide rich aquatic vegetation to the lake. Waterfowl and marsh birds use the wetland habitat for breeding and feeding, while bass and rainbow trout are found in the lake. There are usually strong Pacific winds on the lake.
