Whitewater Glacier is the most frequently climbed route on Mt Jefferson. The route begins by following the Whitewater Trail and then Jeffereson Park Trail to Jefferson Park at the base of the mountain. Camping at Scout Lake or Russell Lake is recommended here. From Jefferson Park, climb up the northeast portion of the base toward the glacier. Once on Whitewater Glacier, traverse south, gradually ascending to the southeast spur. Climb over a short ridge to and then toward the spur to Red Saddle, close to the summit pinnacle. It is recommended to rope up on glaciers and possible belayed climbing may be necessary. Beware of crevasses on the glacier. Equipment needed includes: rope, crampons, ice axe, helmet and possible crevasse rescue capability.
