The Lower MacLeay Trail is a popular one in Forest Park. Portions of the trail follow Balch Creek upstream and passes a beautiful old Stone House. After crossing the stream, the trail begins the ascent up the creek canyon toward the Pittock Mansion. The century old architectural wonder, Pittock Mansion lies 1,000 feet above downtown Portland with views unmatched of downtown and Mount Hood. The magnificent mansion today is a memorial of the Pittock family and their contributions to the city of Portland. There is an admission fee to tour the mansion, but you may tour the grounds and enjoy the views free of charge.
