Climbing Routes

New Wall is midway down the Barton Springs area of Austin. One of the great things about Austin is the easy access to climbing. Barton Creek carves it's way through this park offering great swimming holes, trails, and climbing crags. Numerous hikers, runners, strollers, and climbers frequent the trail through the park. For New Wall, it's easier to park in a residential area as indicated here instead of the parking lot at the north end. The climbing is generally pumpy with positive holds. The grades are moderate. Be careful with the rock quality, though. A large section of the south end of the wall broke off in 2015, destroying Flintstones, Mr. Slate, and School Boys routes. Unfortunately, this is not the only occurrence of rock fall in the area.
