The upper portion of Lake Sacajawea, a reservoir on the Snake River, is set among tall basalt cliffs and narrow stretches of irrigated agriculture in the desert environment. Above the launch site, the current is very strong, especially in spring and summer, as it pours from Lower Monumental Dam. Most of the land around the river is privately owned.
