Mayfield Lake is a reservoir formed by a dam on the Cowlitz River. The lake has narrow arms where the Cowlitz and Tilton Rivers empty into it. Both of these arms are worth exploring and feature stretches of narrow, smooth water in deep, forested gorges with overhanging vegetation. There is a current in the lake, especially the river arms, and it is strongest in spring to early summer. The lake is very popular and can become somewhat crowded on summer weekends. Also watch for power-boat wakes during those times. Other launch sites include Ike Kinswa State Park, the Mossyrock Fish Hatchery, and the Mayfield Lake Resort.
