This lovely little nature trail is an excellent family outing and showcases a variety of habitats common to western Washington. Begin by skirting a wetland and beaver pond, which is also home to a noisy chorus of blackbirds and tree frogs in the spring. Then enter the forest, where ground cover ranges from open to positively choked with devil's club. In crossing McLane Creek, you may spot spawning salmon in the fall. The best way to experience the area is to do a figure eight using a connector trail that follows the bed of an old logging railroad. On the way back to the trailhead, (where you will need a Discover Pass to park) walk along a boardwalk with a spur built out into the marsh to surround yourself with its unique atmosphere.
