Mt Cruiser is the high point of the popular and rugged Sawtooth Ridge. The pillow lava rock is considered some of the best for climbing in the Olympics. The standard approach route is to take the well-worn trail to Flapjack Lakes and continue uphill almost to Gladys Divide. Bear right at the flat open area and begin climbing an obvious steep and icy couloir. There is usually snow or ice here year-round, but it may be possible to climb on rock in the moat in late summer or fall. At the top of the chute, turn left and traverse on the west side of the south peak of Mt Cruiser. Cut across to the east side and descend to a notch, where the climbing route comes into view. Traverse northeast then climb north around a large chockstone. The lone pitch climbs up the south face of the summit block on generally good quality rock. As it is a popular route, you may encounter bolts along the climb. The summit area is small and airy, with good views. If you are planning on camping near Flapjack Lakes, be advised that there is a permit system in place, since they are located inside the national park.
