North Twin marks the northern terminus of the splendid Twin Sisters Range, located about 10 miles southwest of Mt Baker and only 23 miles from Bellingham Bay. The peak is best known for its solid rock and its continuous, uncrevassed snow slope on its northern aspect. The North Route, once leaving the long approach on logging roads (mountain bikes allowed), heads east through a clear cut and scrubby forest to heather slopes and finally onto the 1,500 foot snow/talus slope that typically holds good snow through July. The climb up the slope is very straightforward and it extends nearly all the way to the summit. The uppermost part holds snow year-round and is the steepest (55°) section of the route. Ski descents are frequent when the slope is snow-covered.
