The Palisades Lake Trail ventures into a quiet and remote park of Mt Rainier National Park where you are likely to see wildlife such as elk, deer, and mountain goats. The trail passes a number of small alpine lakes and expansive meadows on its way to Upper Palisades Lake, set in a secluded bowl beneath the enormous talus slopes of columnar basalt tumbling down from Palisades Peak. This hike is especially nice in early and mid summer for the wildflowers and in autumn for huckleberries and the elk rut. There are camping sites (permit required) at Dick Lake and Upper Palisades Lake.
