With the massive floods of 2006, this formerly quick hike has lengthened considerably. The first 3 miles of the adventure are on Carbon River Road, with a few sections of trail circumventing the washouts. This section is often done on mountain bikes (bikes are not allowed past the turn-off.) The trail turns right and climbs to a short side trail leading to Ranger Falls, which are popular and very scenic. If you have the energy, continue climbing to Green Lake, a quiet pond tucked in evergreen forest. This hike is especially beautiful and uncrowded in the winter.
