South Twin is the highest point of the Twin Sisters Range, an isolated block 10 miles southwest of Mt Baker. Much like the West Ridge of North Twin, this route is renowned as an fun, exposed scramble on excellent solid rock. The approach follows logging roads to Daley Prairie, then on less distinct old roads to the National Forest boundary. A rough trail leads through dense forest into an open basin on the northwestern side of the peak. Turn south and ascend a talus slope, which is covered with 45° snow through mid-summer, to the West Ridge. Follow the ridge all the way to the summit, dropping to the south side where necessary to avoid cliffs. Some parties may wish to bring a rope for rappels in a few places on the descent. Mountain bikes are also very useful to save time riding down the logging roads.
