Newport State Park is a good place to escape the crowds. Campsites must be accessed by foot, bike, or boat, which makes this park a little quieter than others. The southern end of the park has some low rock shelves, while the northern section has more sand. After about a mile of paddling, you will see the shoreline change from sand to rock. In Newport Bay the sandy beaches reappear before passing the small rocky point into Sand Cove and Duck Bay. Also in the scenery is a shallow, swampy bay and a thick forest sets the backdrop for the whole route.
