Sea Kayaking

Off the tip of the Door County Peninsula is a chain of islands that stretch north across the entrance to Green Bay all the way to Michigan. These limestone islands are known for their scenery and beaches, and Washington Island in particular is an extremely popular vacation spot. North of Washington lies Rock Island, a state park that is a well-known destination for kayakers and backpackers. The island is reached by kayak or ferry. It is absolutely beautiful to paddle around with great views of its brilliant white cliffs and cobblestone beaches. The combination of colors from the clear green water to the white rock is quite stunning. Strong north to northwest winds can make the water very rough and rocky shorelines make it hard to land if needed. This is a long route so plan for a very long day trip or find one of the several camping or lodging opportunities and plan a two-day trip.
