Washington Island is in an isolated location and has a population of about 650 permanent residents who earn their living from tourism, commercial fishing, and various artistic endeavors. A complete circumnavigation of the island is only 24 miles, making a bicycle the ideal way to explore. The views are beautiful over the vast Lake Michigan and there is much to see of the island as well. The terrain is flat to rolling.
