Quick float from the Pumphouse to the Radium take out. Beautiful stretch of river. A few historical markers with old ruins from pioneers. Also some great places to camp next to the river. Fishing was fair, can be very good sometimes. River running about 2200 cfs.

The put in and take out have parking and a drop off with ramp for lowering boats into the river. Fast moving class 3 and 4 rapids, most of the river requires paddling at all times. Fairly shallow and running at 1050. Rocks are abundant. But lots of fun to be had!The road to the put in and take out are both really rough. But raft trailers do work fine. Super fun stretch of river, we had an amazing time!

The Arkansas River is one of the best rivers to paddle in the state and probably the most crowded. Brown's Canyon is considered the best whitewater section in the state and is well known in the United States. The canyon has incredible scenery through the rugged canyon with ponderosa and pinon pines that line the edges. This is a popular run with commercial rafts so expect large crowds in the summertime. There are 5 sections of technical rapids that are all class III. The whitewater is frequent and all the technical sections have good pools for recovery.

Bighorn Sheep Canyon is a popular section where you can expect many commercial rafters on a summer day. The beginning part is slow and relaxing as the river leaves the open valley and enters a granite boulder gorge. The river paralells closely to US 50 which makes for easy scouting and shuttling. The famous rapids in this section are Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood, Texas Creek, Maytag, and Devil's hole. They are all class III rapids.

The put in for this run is at Pinnacle Rock Recreation Site and the takeout is at Parkdale Recreation Site. This offers a lot of whitewater packed in a short distance. There are 4 technical rapids and the river parallels closely to the road for good access and scouting.

The Arkansas River is one of the best rivers to paddle in the state and probably the most crowded. The Granite Gorge section offers excellent whitewater in a forested canyon. Class III rapids begin a mile below put-in. There is a dam just below the whitewater section that can be portaged on river right. There is one more set up good waves that are fun but and not too challenging. Be sure to not to miss the takeout as extreme rapids begin right below the takeout.

This section of the Green River flows through a deep and remote canyon and offers the best whitewater of the river. It is best done as a multi-day trip. A permit is required and available at the Canyon of Lodore Ranger Station. Beginning in the Canyon of Lodore you will paddle through almost continuous rapids. The popular and named rapids are Disaster Falls, Triplet Falls and Hell’s Half Mile. The current runs into a large boulder at Triplet so being pinned is a possibility. Hell’s Half Mile is wild and should be scouted especially during high water. When you reach the confluence of the Yampa the river gets larger and flows faster. Jones Hole is located about halfway and offers good camping with some petroglyphs to see. From here to the takeout at Split Mountain the river is slow moving and much more relaxing.

This section of the river offers fantastic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as it leaves the town of Salida. It wanders through open grasslands, and cottonwood trees that line the riverbank. There are two sets of rapids that are both class III. The rest of the run is fun and fast whitewater.
