Fern Lake Trail offers a challenging route to Fern Lake and beyond if desired. It is a perfect route for an winter overnight experience. It has a challenging climb and then ends with a fun descent to the Lake. There is the option to continue on to Moraine park and do the route as a shuttle.

Our descent from Longs Peak. We got a later start than expected and had to scramble from the Boulder fields to the tree line to avoid the lightning. We got rained and bailed on as well.

Hike to Flat Top

Shadow Mountain, when compared to its neighboring peaks, is a small peak that lies to the east of Shadow Lake. Although you won't gain as much altitude hiking up this peak, the views are still rewarding. The trail follows the east shores of Shadow Lake through a thick forest of evergreens before climbing to the summit where the forest thins and a lookout tower stands.

Grand Lake is the largest natural lake in Colorado. It was formed by glaciations and is full of history, views of surrounding mountains. The lake offers 4 miles of shoreline of paddling and the fishing here is considered one of the best trout fisheries in the state. You will find browns, rainbows, cutthroat, Mackinaw, and kokanee salmon. This ramp location is on the southeast end of Grand Lake

The hike to Estes Cone is well shaded by a thick forest of evergreens with only few open pockets and meadows that over a glimpse of the views you'll find at the treeless summit. On this hike you'll pass Eugenia Mine, an old gold mining site that was abandoned by 1910.
