Beech Mountain trail offers impressive views of Echo Lake and the southwestern part of Mount Desert Island. There is a mix of steep grades and level stretches.

Gate House to Sargent Mt South Face Trail to Cedar Swamp. This trail offers great views from the exposed cliffs near the summit. It also gives access to other summits.

Located in Acadia National Park, this adventure makes a loop along the valley and West Ridge Trails. There are some short but steep rocky hill climbs but the views are excellent.

This tour of midcoast Maine takes cyclists from the historic town of Rockland out to some great points of interest along the coast. Some of the stops include the lighthouse at Owls Head State Park and Ash Point which offers some awesome coastal scenery of the islands in Penobscot Bay. The ride travels over some mild terrain with only a few small hills making it a good choice for riders of all skill levels visiting the area.

This long loop ride leaves from the community of Wells and travels north, offering riders some excellent scenery along the coast of Maine. Some points of interest along the way include historic homes, beautiful beaches, picturesque harbors, multiple museums, and lots of open green spaces and park. The ride travels over some moderately hilly terrain with some traffic, especially in the summer months, making it a good option for riders with moderate experience.

This trail offers unbeatable views of the classic Maine coastline. The trail is primarily crushed stone and rocky ledges. While this trail is described as an out and back trail, you can hike one-way by using the Island Explorer bus.

Hike to Mt. Abraham campsite. The sign at the trailhead says it is 1.8 miles to the campsite, though we found it to be nearly a mile further. There is an outhouse and a nearby stream for water. Very nice and peaceful as few people use the campsite. Be sure to pack a headnet if you plan to hike in June--the blackflies were terrible!

Baxter State Park is a rugged protected wilderness park located in the North Maine Woods that includes over 200,000 acres of dense forest, clear lakes, and mountain peaks. The park offers visitors over 200 miles of hiking trails and almost 350 campsites spread throughout different areas of the park. Abol Campground is situated near the base of Abol Slide and is one of the more visited campgrounds because of its close proximity to popular hiking trails. The campground includes tent sites and lean-to sites that are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and dispersed vault toilets. There is no drinking water available within the park. Fees are $17-$32 per night depending on the time of year. Reservations are available for some sites but must be made by phone directly through the park.
