This section of the Des Plaines River Trail travels along the northern section of the trail between the Russell Road parking area just south of the Wisconsin/Illinois border to the Kilbourne Road parking area south of Highway 41. The trail follows the path of the Des Plaines River past multiple lakes and ponds, forest preserves, wetland areas, and natural areas that are home to abundant scenery, wildlife, and plantlife. The trail follows mostly flat terrain that is easy to follow making it a good option for riders of all skill levels. The trail is crushed limestone and dirt surface and is multi-use so watch out for other users along the route. The trail can be done as an out-and-back route or one-way route by shuttling vehicles between the many access areas along the trail.

This long loop trail is located in the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area and travels through the wooded terrain located just north of Pontiac Lake. The narrow singletrack trail passes over rolling terrain with some nice hilltop views, passing multiple small lakes and ponds along the way. The trail has lots of moderate climbs and descents making for a fast and exciting ride. The trail is also rugged in spots and requires some technical riding skills making it a good option for intermediate to advanced riders.

This popular loop route travels along a scenic and enjoyable trail system located in the Pinckney State Recreation Area that results in a long and challenging mountain bike ride. The trail travels over rolling terrain with lots of ups and downs as it passes by multiple lakes and through varied terrain. The trail is popular with bikers, hikers, and backpackers so be sure to watch out for others along the trail. Mountain bikers are asked to ride the trail in a clockwise direction while hikers are asked to travel in a counter-clockwise direction so please be considerate and follow the rules of the trail. The area also provides lots of other recreational opportunities including additional hiking trails, campgrounds, and fishing and boating on the multiple lakes in the area.

This long loop trail located in Arcadia Dunes Nature Preserve is a fast and fun singletrack trip over rolling hill terrain located just a few miles inland from Lake Michigan. The trail is rated as intermediate due to the narrow singletrack, up and down terrain consisting of some small climbs, and multiple sharp turns. The trail is also open to hikers so be sure to watch out for others along the trail. There is a small loop trail within the main loop that is only 2 miles long that is a good option for a shorter, easier ride.

The trails travel over rolling hills through heavily wooded areas and open fields with small creeks. This loop ride follows a singletrack trail that is designated for mountain biking only and has some narrow, technical sections that provide a challenging ride. The mountain bike loop is one-way route that is suppose to be ridden clockwise. There are some additional connecting trails in the area that are open for bicycling but these trails are commonly used for hiking and equestrian riding so watch out for others when venturing off on other trails.
