This trail follows the southeastern slopes of Lee Mountain. It is a family friendly hike that can be done by all ages. The scenery is refreshing and you’ll have an occasional glimpse of Lake Winnipesaukee before and eventually reach Shannon Pond. The trail does continue to Castle in the Clouds if you’re up for more adventure.

Tuckerman Ravine is a famed and classic route to the summit ridge of Mt Washington. It’s a challenging summer hike paralleling the upper reaches of the Cutler River at lower elevations and then ascends to rather exposed trail that crosses talus and winds around vertical rock. Although the lower trail may be accessible by snowshoe in winter the upper ravine portion requires specialized skills and equipment or may be closed all together. Be aware that conditions can change rapidly on Mt Washington bringing high winds and reduction of visibility to nearly zero. Check and heed weather reports before going and bring appropriate clothing for conditions. Bring extra food and water and be prepared for emergencies. Familiarize yourself with and observe regulations posted at the trailhead. Traction devices are advised for snowy or icy conditions. A parking permit is required at trailheads in the White Mountain National Forest.

A lovely hike that travels through a beautiful forest setting. It is mostly flat, with groomed paths that are well marked. There is access to the beach, which is a great place to stop for lunch or relaxing. Lots of rocks for the kids to scramble on and ferns everywhere. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times.

This popular hike to the top of Puzzle Mountain is part of the Grafton Loop Trail. The peak of this day hike is marked by a large rock cairn where you can enjoy views of Grafton Notch, the Sunday River Ski Area, and a distant view of the Presidentials.

At 4,170 feet, Old Speck is the fourth highest mountain in Maine beat only by Katahdin, Sugarloaf, and Crocker. Getting its name from the speckled areas of exposed rock, Old Speck dominates the western area of Grafton Notch State park. There is an open observation tower overlooking the surrounding areas at the peak.

Mt Shaw is the highest summit in the Ossipee Mountains and provides excellent views of the surrounding area including Lake Winnipesaukee to the southwest. Located on the Castle in the Clouds estate the trail to Mt Shaw passes several trailside attractions including the waterfalls of lower Shannon Brook, The Knob highpoint and Turtleback Mountain. Check and heed local weather reports, bring appropriate apparel for conditions and pack enough food and water for a daylong outing. The use of traction devices is advisable for icy or snowy conditions.

Baldpate Mountain is located in the Mahoosuc mountain range in the Grafton Notch State Park. The trail follows the Appalachian Trail to both the West and East peak of Baldpate Mountain. For those seeking a longer hike, consider adding on the Table Rock Loop trail. While Grafton Notch State Park allows year round trail access, the park is only staffed May 15 through October 15.
