Nestled in Pennsylvania's Appalachians, and are fed by Evitts Creek, Lake Koon has amazing views with a very peaceful setting. Because the lake is a municipal water supply, development of the surrounding area is restricted, and the scenic beauty has remained unspoiled. Canoeing and kayaking on the lake is highly recommended and one of the best lakes to do so in the state.

Surrounded by Delaware State Forest, Pecks Pond offers many canoeing possibilities and wildlife encounters. Numerous amounts of beds of water lilies are along the shorelines. The northern end of the lake is filled with vegetation in the summer, but there is still usually a channel to canoe through. There are multiple large and small islands that dot the lake and are very interesting to watch the wildlife that live on them.

Lake Jean is a part of the large Ricketts Glen State Park, also home to Glens Natural Area, the 94-foot Ganoga Falls, old growth timber and diverse wildlife. The 245-acre Lake Jean allows only electric and hand-powered boats, thus providing a very peaceful and serene setting amidst the rolling, tree-covered hills. Boat rentals are available at the lake.

This route explores the lagoons at Presque Isle State Park where something is always to enjoy in each season. This is a calm paddle with no rapids or current where more than 800 species of plants and more than 300 species of birds live and migrate through.

Lake Arthur and its sparkling waters are surrouned by gently rolling hills and lush forests in Moraine State Park. This is a very popular location with over one million boaters, hikers, bikers and swimmers visiting every year. The visitors however have helped environmentally restore the area from prior coal mining and oil and gas drilling. This is a large 3,225-acre lake, where canoeing is still very possible with so many visitors. Sailing is also popular here as conditions are ideal for the sport throughout the summer.

Shohola Marsh Reservoir snakes and twists southwest created many recessed coves and inlets throughout. This is a great place to canoe and explore the marshy area with a varied wildlife population. This area is known for its spring and fall waterfowl migration populations. A large amount of the eastern half of the lake is a designated wildlife propagation area and is off-limits to boaters. This area is home to many birds and most notably the bald eagle.

The beautiful Maurice K. Goddard State Park is home to the large 1,860-acre Lake Wilhelm, which is very popular with anglers. The lake is a warm-water fishery with common species being largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, bluegill, crappie, catfish, perch and sunfish. The lake has gorgeous views of the rolling hills and nearby farmland. Pontoon boats, row boats, motorboats, kayaks and canoes are available for rent at the lake.

Green Lane Reservoir is a popular canoeing and birding location. The lake sees more than 260 species of birds, including shorebirds, waterfowl, waders, bald eagles and songbirds. There are multiple coves, inlets and fingers along the lake perfect for canoeing. Spring migration from mid-April through early June, would be a great time to visit.

This lake is located in Swartswood State Park and offers camping, picnicking, playgrounds, and swimming. There are homes on the lake but they are set back from the shoreline so they do not detract from the privacy. Fishing is good with walleye and brown trout to catch. You will find an assortment of trees and birding is excellent including an abundance of swans. Hiking is also available.

A popular canoeing location, Laurel Forge Pond is a small 25-acre lake located in Pine Grove Furnace State Park and is set within beautiful thick trees with a gorgeous lakeside beach. Fishing, camping, hiking, biking, swimming and boating are all great at the park. There is another small lake, Fuller Lake, located in the state park, but boating is not permitted there. Common fish found at the lakes are pickerel, perch and stocked trout. Mountain Creek, which flows through the park, has brown, brook and rainbow trout. The famous Appalachian Trail runs through the state park.
