This is a gorgeous hike through DuPont State Forest along the Little River that views four waterfalls. The trail first heads west to Hooker Falls, where there is an observation deck and then continues downhill to a nice sandy beach and swimming hole across from the falls. After retracing your steps, the trail then goes southeast to Triple Falls, a 120 foot waterfall and then to High Falls, a 150 foot waterfall. Triple Falls drops in three sections. High Falls can be viewed from an overlook and is remarkable with a covered bridge at the top. The trail then climbs up and crosses the covered bridge and then continues to a smaller Grassy Creek Falls. DuPont State Forest is a mecca for mountain biking and this trail especially is popular for hiking and biking.

This trail leads to both Whitewater Falls and Laurel Falls, both amazingly over 400 feet waterfalls. The trail leads to an observation deck overlooking Whitewater Falls, said to be the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi River at 411 feet and part of a Natural Heritage Area. From the observation deck, the route leads down old steps on a strenuous decline to the river's edge. There is a footbridge at the base of Laurel Falls, which is a 400 foot waterfall, but only a small portion is visible.

This trail takes you through the Eastatoe Heritage Preserve and offers great views of the surrounding Sassafras Mountains, the Eastatoe Creek where you are sure to see Rainbow Trout (also a popular fishing area), and the pretty 60’ Eastatoe Falls. Also, due to the unusual humidity in the area, three rare tropical ferns can be found that cannot be seen elsewhere in North America.

Just to be clear, this scenic overlook situated atop a large smooth rock out-cropping is not a hike, nor really even a walk, since it only takes a couple of minutes to reach after parking your car. Regardless, Bald Rock is often considered a must-visit location for anyone in the area, especially those heading to Table Rock State Park since it is only a few miles from the park, off the side of U.S. 276. What it offers up for no effort is spectacular however, as you will enjoy fantastic views of the foothills of Greenville and Pickens counties, including Table Rock itself, a large and majestic granite dome.

The main highlight of Cedar Falls Park is at the beginning of the trail-head, Cedar Falls, an expansive cascade on the Reedy river that has been called a miniature Niagra Falls. This is due to its shape, not height, as the falls aren't very tall. Regardless, they are visually appealing and worth seeing before starting the walk/hike through the park that mostly follows the Reedy River. Keep in mind that this park is still under development and eventually the trail network will be expanded and additional amenities included such as picnic groves, a playground, and interpretative signs describing the historical significance of the area. Such may eventually make the area very popular, but currently however, it lends itself to a very quiet and peaceful experience.

Mostly smooth as well, with only a couple sections of rocks to shake things up. All in all, a very popular trail in the FATS network.

Big Rock Loop is one of two trails on the northern side of the Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which in all is often considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in South Carolina. This particular trail gets its name due to several rock outcroppings along the way. This trail, along with its companion trail, Tower, is steeper and a bit more rocky than those to the south. The width of the trail is also a bit more narrow. Ultimately such makes for a more technical experience than the southern trails, but not by too much. Due to its steeper ascents and descents one will also find this trail to be more physically demanding, but also be rewarded with moments of greater speed. In fact, Big Rock Loop has one of the longest downhill sections in the park, though the precursor to such is obviously an uphill section. All in all, these trails don't flow quite as well as the southern network. Regardless, most would say they're not to be missed.

This beautiful and strenuous trail starts at the Fork Mountain trail-head and ends at the Bad Creek trail-head for the Whitewater Falls hikes. This essentially amounts to a longer variation of the Upper Whitewater Falls hike, for those looking for an extended experience. In addition to such, this hike is also very appealing to many as it gains much more elevation than the traditional Whitewater Falls hike, thus offering great views of the surrounding area including Lake Jocassee. Keep in mind that while this trail does naturally allow one to see Upper Whitewater Falls, it heads down to the Bad Creek trail-head without going to the Lower Whitewater Falls overlook. None-the-less, it is entirely possible for one to take the spur trail to see those falls as well, which adds approximately three miles overall (1.5 miles one-way) to the length of the trail. Also keep in mind that while listed here as a long out-and-back, it is possible to cut the journey in half by arranging for a shuttle at the Bad Creek parking lot.

Twin Falls is alternatively known by a variety of names such as Rock Falls, Reedy Cove Falls, and Eastatoe Falls. Regardless, this hike is famous for being short and sweet. What is essentially a quarter mile (one-way) alongside a creek ends at an overlook that allows one to view two waterfalls at once. The best time to view the falls is after a rainfall as both waterfalls will be flowing very well, otherwise the one on the right can sometimes almost be non-existent. None-the-less, the shortness of the hike combined with its generally gentle slope makes for a easy-going hiking experience anytime.

Table Rock State Park is considered one of the premiere hiking destinations in all of South Carolina, and the Table Rock Loop combines sections of several of its best trails. Starting out on the Pinnacle Mountain/Foothills trail, one hikes along the banks of Carrick Creek and is immediately presented with a cascade/waterfall on the river. The trail eventually splits off onto the Mill Creek Pass that connects to the Ridge trail, which then itself connects to the Table Rock Mountain trail that heads back to the trail-head/parking area. Keep in mind that, for reasons of difficulty, this particular loop does not ascend either Pinnacle Mountain or Table Rock Mountain. However, for those prepared for the considerable effort to do so, it is entirely possible to ascend both peaks as additional spur trails while on this loop, or separately, and many consider the views and effort to achieve them well worth it.

For those wanting to enjoy the view from the top of Sassafras Mountain and still have a great hiking experience (there is a road that leads to it for those wanting to drive), but doesn't want to endure the strenuous eighteen-mile out-and-back hike from Table Rock State Park, this alternate route that starts in Laurel Valley is the perfect alternative. While still gaining quite a bit of elevation, its overall length is less than half that of the Table Rock route and is thus overall a fair amount easier. Parking a shuttle at the top of the mountain would make it even easier.

While the hike traverses through the beautiful Laurel Fork Heritage Preserve, which is appealing to many in and of itself, it is also quite long and not for one looking for an easy adventure. As such, another great option that is less strenuous for viewing the falls is from Lake Jocassee itself, by boat.

Given its location in the low-country near the ocean, this trail is mostly flat and doesn't offer the same level of uphill/downhill excitement at higher elevations. Regardless, this trail is considered one of the best 'sea-level' mountain bike rides in South Carolina. The overall trail length is 12 miles, though there are several short-cuts, indicated by blue markers. While it's mostly flat with few climbs/descents, the trail makes up for it with some well placed hard-pack turns, jumps and drops. Though many bikers choose to ride without it, technically one is required to obtain a pass from the local MWR office since the trail is on government military property.

Tower Loop is one of two trails on the northern side of the Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which in all is often considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in South Carolina. This particular trail gets its name due to a an observation tower near the trail. This trail, along with its companion trail, Big Rock Loop, is steeper and a bit more rocky than those to the south. The width of the trail is also a bit more narrow. Ultimately such makes for a more technical experience than the southern trails, but not by much. Due to its steeper ascents and descents one will also find this trail to be more physically demanding, but also be rewarded with moments of greater speed. Most remark that this trail feels like an extension to Big Rock, and while it is very similar, this trail overall includes more uphill riding, which is also generally of a steeper grade.

Regardless, the falls themselves are generally considered to be top-quality and feature a less than vertical cascade featuring many levels/tiers which total to approximately 100' feet in height.

Not to be confused with the Turkey Creek trail near Issaqueena Lake, this popular hiking and mountain biking trail resides within Sumter National Forest. The trail includes mild doses of just about everything, such as bridges, rocks, roots, and switchbacks. But, as mentioned, none of it is overly technical. One may also encounter fallen trees along the trail, depending on conditions at the time. In addition to the riding experience itself, the area is noteworthy for its scenery which includes a large creek that is often visible, and also an abundance of wildlife. Keep in mind that the trailhead for Turkey Creek is also shared by the Wine Creek trailhead, so one could potentially bike both on the same trip. Also watch out for hikers as the trail is multi-use. In the summer bug-spray is highly recommended.

The Lost Creek trail, in addition to often being a less crowded trail, it also features more sharp turns than any most of the other trails in the forest and also some moderately fast downhill. Keep in mind that this is a multi-use trail, as are most in the park, and hikers may be present on it. A biking permit/fee is required to use the trails which, as of this writing, is $5 for a daily pass and $25 for a yearly pass.

For mountain bikers, Paris Mountain State Park is best defined by sustained strenuous uphill climbs that are rewarded with fast 'bombing' downhill rides. The Firetower trail, while just one of the many offerings in the park, is in this vein--tough uphill but fast and rewarding downhill. Keep in mind that this park is multi-use and hiking is popular in the area. While such is true, due to it being essentially a wide road, the Firetower trail often sees less foot traffic than the others. Regardless, many of the other trails are definitely worth looking into as well such as Kanuga and Brissy Ridge. It is also important to note that the trails are closed on Saturdays to mountain bikers (but one can still enjoy hiking on Saturday).
