Renaissance Park has a great trail tucked away right in the middle of Charlotte. The trail is not too long, but is a lot of fun and multiple loops could be done for more mileage. Some areas of the trail are technically demanding with rocks and roots on a tight single track and even a couple steep descents. This is probably the most demanding trail in Charlotte proper.

Brown Wave is one of four trails on the southern side of the Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which in all is often considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in South Carolina. This trail gets its name for its roller coaster 'wave-like' whoop-do-doos. Overall the trail is essentially flat, not a lot of climbing or downhill, but as such it flows perhaps the best. Mostly smooth as well, with only a couple sections of rocks to shake things up. All in all, a very popular trail in the FATS network.

Skinny Loop is one of four trails on the southern side of the Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which in all is often considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in South Carolina. This trail is essentially a sister trail to Brown Wave, sharing many of its features such as smooth great-flowing single track and a lot of well-executed whoop-de-doos that make the trail feel like a roller coaster. This trail, while considered the easiest of the six at FATS, is sometimes considered one of its best too, for beginners and experts alike. This is due to the fact that the whoop-do-doos are great for all skill levels, allowing beginners to take easy and roll over, while also being well spaced for experts to catch some air on.

Big Rock Loop is one of two trails on the northern side of the Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which in all is often considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in South Carolina. This particular trail gets its name due to several rock outcroppings along the way. This trail, along with its companion trail, Tower, is steeper and a bit more rocky than those to the south. The width of the trail is also a bit more narrow. Ultimately such makes for a more technical experience than the southern trails, but not by too much. Due to its steeper ascents and descents one will also find this trail to be more physically demanding, but also be rewarded with moments of greater speed. In fact, Big Rock Loop has one of the longest downhill sections in the park, though the precursor to such is obviously an uphill section. All in all, these trails don't flow quite as well as the southern network. Regardless, most would say they're not to be missed.
