This is a great day trip located on Weiss Lake. Begin at the AL 36 bridge crossing over the Chatooga River. Put in underneath the bridge and begin your paddle to the Driftwood Campground. Start off by paddling along the Chatooga River before reaching Weiss Lake. Passing multiple beaches along the way, you have the option of stopping to rest and have a nice lunch break before continuing on. Stop off at Hog Island, one of the largest islands on the lake. and enjoy the view before finishing your day trip at Driftwood Campground. Camping is available along the lake, which can turn this into a multi-day trip if desired.

Located inside Little River Canyon, this trail leads from the Cherokee County Road 275 descending down into the canyon leading right to the banks of Little River. From here travel upstream following the river banks until reaching Eberhard Trail which will lead you up a short but steep climb to the parking area/vista point from the top of the canyon walls. There is no designated trail as you hike up stream from the end of Powell trail to the beginning of Eberhart trail. Be advised that you may have to cross the river at a few points and make your way through large boulder fields, making for a great adventure hike. At certain parts of the year the river may be to high and flowing to fast to cross safely. At these times it is not advised to hike this section of the trail.

This trip begins from the Driftwood Family Campground Boat Ramp located along the shoreline of Weiss Lake. From here begin your day paddle trip by traveling towards Yellow Creek, then onto Yellow Creek Waterfalls. Once reaching the mouth of the Yellow Creek, pull up along the banks as you rest, enjoy the views of the waterfalls and have lunch before making the journey back to Driftwood Campground. If desired, you can hike up to the waterfalls. Driftwood Campground is open from March 1st through October 31st. Fees are required for boat ramp access and campsites. Plenty of amenities are available making this a great location for the whole family. Smaller paddle trips are available in the area as well.

There is boat ramp located at near Big Oak Campground at the mouth of Little River that can be used if needed. Pull up along the banks of the Little River as you rest, enjoy the views and have lunch before making the journey back to Driftwood Campground. Driftwood Campground is open from March 1st through October 31st. Fees are required for boat ramp access and campsites. Plenty of amenities are available making this a great location for the whole family. Smaller trips are available in the area as well for canoes and short distance kayaking.

With rapids ranging from Class III to V this section of Johnnies is one of the favorite Class IV’s in Alabama. Begin this trip along Cherokee Country 275 road and make your way through rapids ranging from Class III to V and multiple drops. The most well known rapid and the largest is Gorilla Constrictor. Many of the rapids are close together allowing limited rest in between rapids. This trip ends by floating into Little River Canyon with the take out located at Canyon Mouth Park. By using the the Little River Canyon Bridge gauge on Rt. 35, you generally want 12" which is about 2100-2200 cfs.

From here paddle this western section of Weiss Lake and then onto Cedar Point Campground after passing Byrams Island. This can be paddled from either direction with many options to explore in between.
